Ellen Ongkengko-Marfil’s Boses and Chris Martinez’s 100 have turned out as the must-watch movies at the on-going 4th Cinemalaya filmfest at the CCP. Both movies are well-crafted but they are opposites. Boses is about coping with the past to have a better future while 100 has no future so you fix the present. They are too different so they are difficult to compare because of their different genres. Mylene Dizon is good in 100 but there’s something missing with her acting. Eight-year-old Julian Duque is more than a 100% in Boses. He’s very good, a gem. He melts hearts. It’s guaranteed he will make you fall in love with him. He’s a natural actor. His eyes as dramatic as Nora Aunor’s. But Boses is more powerful. 100 has more commercial values. Boses will do well in children and/or human rights festivals.
